The continuous progress in information technology has enabled people to have access to a wide range of information online via computers and electronics such as mobile phones and iPad. Such great convenience inevitably arouse the question - Has the modern technology made paper-based reading materials obsolete? In my view, we should never overlook the peculiar charm of printed books.

Admittedly, with computers or mobile phones, people can easily get the latest information including global news, recent scientific breakthroughs and newly-launched products by browsing websites. In fact, there are not just written articles, but also pictures and even videos attached, which allow people to get to know the events in a more vivid way. Moreover, owing to huge storage capacity, a portable little E-reader can carry an entire library wherever you , which is great for travelers or those who always want a choice of reading material.

Nevertheless, printed media is certainly ing to be with us for a very long time for several reasons. Although scrolling on the touchscreen of hand held devices or browsing the websites by using a mouse is no longer unfamiliar to many people, a certain number of readers are still inclined to the conventional ways simply because of their long-formed reading habits of holding a book in the hand or their sensory experience of reading from a paper book and the smell of fresh ink. Such kind of satisfaction and legitimacy can never be provided by digital books.

In addition, printed books, magazines, or newspapers also provide features of sharing and keeping. People can lend their friends marked up books rather than a copy of an E-book. Similarly, People will be glad to buy a collection of Harry Potter to read it, put it on the rack and try to read it in 10 years, while I quite doubt about people’s willingness to keep these E-books.

In conclusion, in spite of the undisputed convenience and massive storage offered by the information highway, using electronic devices is merely a complement to the printed information sources because of its functional limitations and reading experience that fails to match some readers' preferences.
